  • North End won the War Cup after beating Arsenal 2-1 in 1941.

  • In 1939-40 North End beat Accrington Stanley 10-1 at Peel Park.

  • Two North End players were sadly killed in 1941-42 - David Willacy and Percy Taylor.

  • Andy Beattie, Bill Shankly and Tom Smith all played in Scotland's 5-4 win against England in 1942.

  • North End had 15 players serving overseas in 1945-46 . They included Bobbie Beattie, Andy Beattie, Andy McLaren and Tom Finney.

  • During the war, Tom Finney guested for Newcastle, Bolton and Southampton.

  • Jimmy Dougal made 154 appearances during the war for North End.

  • North End thumped Tranmere Rovers 12-1 in the 3rd round of the War Cup. McLaren scored 5, O'Donnell 4 while the rest of the goals were scored by Dougal, Wharton and Finney.
